Lecture 1 : Spotfire Architecture



On-Premise Setup:

It contains Spotfire Server(Processing logic) as a BOX and Spotfire DB (Enumerable Databases with connector provided by spotfire).

Anything server connected client saves in spotfire server is directly saved in spotfire db.

Client and Server should not be in same machine.



Spotfire Cloud (Software As A Service):

Server + Spotfire DB goes to Cloud.

Admin work(Configurations, Security, Client setups, db connectivity, payment for spotfire server and db, maintenance, etc)  is to be done by cloud organization. Hence its called SAAS.

Unlimited Scalability (performance, ram size increase when number of client adds to spotfire server.



OLTP Connectivity: (Not allowing pressure on OLTP (max one month Data not the historical Data i.e not Live Data) hence creating Data Warehouse for accessing Data using ETL).

ODS (Operational Data Store) can store Historical Data

             ETL

OLTP  -------> DW  -------> Cube Reporting.

                                ----------> Cognos Reporting.

                                ----------> Power BI Reporting.

                                -----------> More Business Intelligence Tools.



Saving some file(.dxp) file to Server means publishing file to Server.

Once saved, we can get Web Client Link, so that we can see the data, email the link, etc inside the server.

Click Raj Raj -> Account Settings > Downloads > Spotfire Cloud Analyst(client)-> For designing Spotfire reports.

Once download starts, login dialog appears like in image:

We need to specify which server we are going to use by clicking “Manage Servers”-> Add.

Can give entire Server URL address like https://.......com or IP address of the connected server whether its in the cloud or in-premise setup. But at a time, client can connect to only one server.

By default if Server and Client are within one PC, it will specify available servers as below.

Username and password should be the same as mentioned while the registration spotfire site.






Accessing Server folders and administrating it from client (Cloud Analyst):

To Access Server folders and files, Goto Files > Open from > Library.

To make some Admin related work (like Granting and Revoking access to user) Goto > Tools > Library Administration.



Spotfire Login Dialog:

If we click on remember the credentials while login to server via client, automatically next time client logs into the remembered server.

What if I want to change the server from Manage Servers?

Answer is Spotfire Login Dialog, where same dialog opens, where we can choose the server list and credentials.


Level up from basic concepts(Above):

There are 2 types of variables (i.e data, fields, etc.)

1)      Qualitative (Categorical).

i)                    Nominal: (No Inherit ORDER --- ex. Types of Products, cards, etc.) (One can be higher than another or vice versa).

ii)                   Ordinal: Inheritance of Order like Ratings (Excellent/ Good/ Average) Or (Tall > Medium > Short)



2)      Quantitative (Numerical).

i)                    Interval: Numeric Data. (Supports only Addition, Subtraction) (No True Zero)

Ex. Temperature 10C(Dubai)    40C(London). Here we subtracted celcius by location, but we can’t say Dubai is 4 times hotter than London.

It means we should have some SCALE which starts with 0 only.(how much more imagine).

Kelvin’s Scale starts with 0. So we can say 40 is 4 times 10. But in Celsius scale, scale doesn’t starts with 0, it also has negative values too. So we can’t say 40 is 4 times 10.



ii)                   Ratio: Supports All operations including multiplication and Division.(True Zero Exists).

Ex. Person’s Height.

5 feet and 2.5 feet.



Data Tables:

Every Data comes from Data Table.

There are number of Datasources we can use for creating Data Table.

For creating Database connections:

Goto Files > Add Data Tables > Other > Databases > select the Database connections, authenticate it > select tables to use from that DB > Next > OK.

As soon as you create Data Table, Spotfire asks you immediately to visualize the data in a recommended visualization graphs.

Internal and External(Everything relies on Databases).

Techniques for Inserting Image in Jasper report

Welcome Again...!! Today we will be learning how to insert Image element in a report using Jasper Studio. Step 1 : Create a blank report named "inserting_image.jrxml" Step 2 : Drag Image Element from Palette in Page Header Band as shown in screenshot. $P{...} and $P!{...} parameter types in Jasper report

Welcome Guys...!!! Today v'll learn most important first 2 types of parameters out of 3. 1) $P{Parameter_Name} 2) $P!{Parameter_Name} 3) $X{.......} Third type of Parameter is briefly explained in my next post for more deeper understanding. < jr:table >..< /jr:table > component in Jaspersoft Studio

Welcome Guys...!!! Today v'll learn inserting table in a report using Jaspersoft Studio. Basically Table component is used for displaying records with SEPARATE DATASET  and different query other than Main Report query. Step 1  :  Table component is always placed under SUMMARY band. If its placement is under detail band, entire table will print all over again multiple times to which equals to the result of RECORD COUNT in SQL query.
